ABOUT US

The Internet Exchange Point (IXP) of Guyana is a critical infrastructure that allows local internet service providers to share traffic locally. This improves speed, reliability, and efficiency, ensuring that internet traffic stays within Guyana whenever possible. The establishment of the Guyana Internet Exchange Point represent a successful collaboration among Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Government Stakeholders, University of Guyana, technical professionals and local and international partners. The University of Guyana has provided a neutral space to facilitate the hosting and support of the IXP equipment room. It became operational in May 2025 and marks a significant milestone in strengthening our country’s internet infrastructure and performance.

A Management Committee will govern the GYIXP, referred to as the GYIXP Management Committee. This committee is responsible for setting strategies, overseeing the administration of GYIXP, and protecting the interests of the Peers, Hosts, and GYIXP. The members of this committee will include representatives from the University of Guyana, Internet service providers, the Government of Guyana, and Technical and administrative leads approved by the management committee.
